Artist: Rachel Peters

Handcrafted by Rachel Peters, The Kiss is a sculptural ceramic cremation urn made using traditional coil-building techniques in black stoneware. The surface is left unglazed, allowing the natural texture of the clay to remain visible.

The form explores the tension between strength and tenderness. With its dual openings and grounded stance, the piece holds a sense of stillness and ambiguity, inviting both connection and reflection.

Created as a one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic urn for ashes, The Kiss offers a contemporary memorial urn for those seeking a deeply considered vessel for remembrance.

Please note: The stopper is intended to be sealed with an appropriate sealant once filled, creating a permanent closure. We recommend contacting your chosen funeral director to support with this.

Rachel Peters

Rachel Peters is a ceramic artist whose practice is shaped by material sensitivity, lived experience, and a deep engagement with form. After a career in social work and time living in South Africa, she returned to clay, drawn to its dualities: fragile yet strong, grounded yet full of possibility. Working primarily with grogged stoneware, she embraces natural texture and subtle irregularities, creating sculptural forms with curves, soft edges, and surfaces that invite touch, with a focus on form and texture rather than surface decoration.

Influenced by organic structures in nature and figurative references that often echo the female body, Rachel uses abstraction to explore resilience and emotional presence, where strength sits alongside softness and structure meets fluidity. Presented by urn studios as contemporary ceramic cremation urns for ashes, her pieces offer a quiet yet powerful space for memorial and remembrance.
