Artist: Phil Irons

This wooden walnut cremation urn by Phil Irons is made from an English tree estimated to be over 300 years old, originally from Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire (UK). The wood was rescued after a branch fell, with the homeowner choosing to see it repurposed rather than lost, a gesture that inspired Phil’s work. The urn’s surface celebrates the walnut’s rich natural grain, complemented by a lid crafted from holly felled in Evesham. Fine cracks in the lid were filled with turquoise holographic flakes, inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing with gold. Finished with a protective wax oil, this urn for ashes embodies resilience and renewal, a timeless, hand-turned vessel for remembrance.
