Handcrafted by Philip Kupferschmidt (PK Ceramics), this ceramic cremation urn for ashes is wheel-thrown as a lidded vessel, then finished with a field of raised glaze droplets. The surface draws on the natural “beading” effect of surface tension, creating a calm rhythm of forms across the body and lid.

Philip’s work is rooted in familiar pottery shapes, transformed through glaze exploration inspired by the guttation of plants and fungi, those small, gathered drops that appear at edges and tips. A one-of-a-kind handmade urn for ashes, designed as a memorial object with tactile detail.

Philip Kupferschmidt is a ceramic artist based in Chino, California, maintaining a studio practice since 2020 after receiving his MFA in Ceramics and BFA in Creative Photography from California State University, Fullerton.

Working primarily on the potter’s wheel, Philip makes handmade ceramic vessels shaped by ongoing glaze experimentation and close observation of natural phenomena. While his pieces follow a consistent set of themes, no two are identical, each one developed through careful design decisions, material exploration, and an interest in rethinking familiar pottery forms.
