Infinite Galaxy III • Moon Jar Cremation Urn

Artist: Hui-Yong Kim (Galaxy Clay)

Handcrafted by Hui-Yong Kim, this raku moon jar cremation urn is wheel-thrown in a wide, rounded silhouette inspired by traditional moon jars. The generous body allows the Infinite Galaxy glaze to develop with layered depth, while the lid remains clean and gently domed beneath the finial.

As with all raku-fired work, the glaze is shaped by heat, reduction, and cooling, creating variation that cannot be replicated. Infinite Galaxy III is a one-of-a-kind moon jar urn for ashes, timeless in form and made as a singular memorial vessel.

Hui-Yong Kim

(Galaxy Clay)

Hui-Yong Kim (He-Young) is a ceramic artist born and raised in South Korea. After studying with Master Chuan Sian Boon in Singapore, she continued her training at the Portland Community College ceramic studio, developing work that combines the elegance of traditional Asian forms with the spontaneity of American raku firing.

Working under the name Galaxy Clay, Hui-Yong developed a signature raku glaze she calls Infinite Galaxy, named after her love for the galaxy. Her practice is rooted in patience and precision, with each piece refined over many hours of making. The result is a collection of handmade memorial urns that feel both traditional in form and strikingly contemporary in surface.
