Part of the urn series by Robert Bende, this ceramic cremation urn for ashes is formed from wheel-thrown white clay and finished with hand-polished terra sigillata for a subtle, tactile sheen. There is no glaze, only the smooth compression of clay itself. Fired outdoors in saggars filled with sawdust and straw, each urn develops its own tone and pattern. The fire paints in shades of smoke-grey, rust, and sand, leaving its beauty on the surface. The Sagger Urn Florence is totally unique, a reflection of fire’s touch and the patience of craft.
