This large wooden urn for ashes by C.C. Boyce is crafted from rich FSC-certified walnut and rescued California elm, balancing warmth, weight, and organic movement through contrasting tones and flowing grain. The walnut base features natural quilted grain that shimmers as it catches the light, while the caramel-colored elm top was selected to harmonize with the walnut’s warmth and softer tones.

The cremation urn opens discreetly with hidden rare earth magnets. A planter space above is designed to hold a small succulent or cactus, bringing an enduring living element to the piece’s strong architectural form. The urn includes a cup for the plant above and a muslin bag to hold the ashes below.

C.C. Boyce is a second-generation woodworker and designer creating modern cremation urns and memorial objects in her studio located in the San Bernardino Mountains. She works primarily with rescued California lumber, giving new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded.

Her work blends minimal, geometric design with natural textures and irregularities in the wood, creating truly one-of-a-kind pieces. Inspired by the belief that memorial objects should be as unique as the people they honor, Boyce Studio vessels challenge traditional funeral aesthetics with designs that are warm, sculptural, and emotionally resonant. Each piece is handcrafted with an emphasis on material, craftsmanship, and meaningful connection.
