Artist: Kate Gorbunova (Count Barkula)

Handcrafted in East London by Kate Gorbunova (Count Barkula), the Bluebell Memory Vessel is a ceramic dog urn for ashes inspired by ancient Greek and Roman amphorae. The serene guardian hound atop recalls Pre-Columbian and Mesoamerican depictions of sacred animals who guided and protected souls. Made from white stoneware and adorned with ornamental bluebell motifs, the cremation urn features underglaze detailing and a turquoise crackle glaze. This handmade dog memorial is one of a kind, created as both artwork and tribute.

(Count Barkula)

Count Barkula is the playful ceramic alter ego of Kate Gorbunova, born during lockdown as an escape from screen fatigue. A graphic designer by trade, Kate sought a hands-on creative outlet, something tangible and deeply personal. She found it in clay. Inspired by her beloved whippet, Victor Hugo, she now creates handmade ceramic pet urns with charm and character. This special collection of dog and cat urns was created exclusively for urn studios, blending warmth, symbolism, and playful design.

Her forms echo Greek and Roman pottery, while expressive animal guardians nod to Pre-Columbian and Mesoamerican traditions. Richly decorated surfaces, florals reminiscent of folk art and patterns inspired by Persian and Middle Eastern ceramics, bring each handmade pet urn to life. Every piece hand-painted in Hackney, East London, offering a heartfelt tribute to the animals we love.
