Artist: Hui-Yong Kim (Galaxy Clay)

Handcrafted by Hui-Yong Kim, Infinite Galaxy IV is a wheel-thrown moon jar urn for ashes, finished using the traditional raku firing process and Hui-Yong’s signature glaze, Infinite Galaxy. The lidded vessel is designed as a calm, refined memorial object, intentional, and balanced.

Raku firing is defined by rapid heating and cooling, creating natural variation and metallic depth that cannot be replicated. In this piece, the Infinite Galaxy glaze settles into a concentrated, layered finish across the vessel, giving the urn a cohesive yet unmistakably one-of-a-kind character. Infinite Galaxy IV is a handmade ceramic cremation urn created with patience and precision.

Hui-Yong Kim

(Galaxy Clay)

Hui-Yong Kim (He-Young) is a ceramic artist born and raised in South Korea. After studying with Master Chuan Sian Boon in Singapore, she continued her training at the Portland Community College ceramic studio, developing work that combines the elegance of traditional Asian forms with the spontaneity of American raku firing.

Working under the name Galaxy Clay, Hui-Yong developed a signature raku glaze she calls Infinite Galaxy, named after her love for the galaxy. Her practice is rooted in patience and precision, with each piece refined over many hours of making. The result is a collection of handmade memorial urns that feel both traditional in form and strikingly contemporary in surface.
