Handmade by Philip Kupferschmidt (PK Ceramics), this lidded ceramic keepsake urn for ashes, is built on the wheel and finished with a dense pattern of glaze droplets. The raised marks create a protective, almost shell-like surface, tactile and carefully balanced across the form.

The surface language comes from natural processes Philip studies in his glazing: surface tension and guttation, where liquid gathers into distinct beads and drops. The result is a one-of-a-kind handmade memorial vessel, designed to hold ashes with care while bringing a sense of presence to the home.

Philip Kupferschmidt is a ceramic artist based in Chino, California, maintaining a studio practice since 2020 after receiving his MFA in Ceramics and BFA in Creative Photography from California State University, Fullerton.

Working primarily on the potter’s wheel, Philip makes handmade ceramic vessels shaped by ongoing glaze experimentation and close observation of natural phenomena. While his pieces follow a consistent set of themes, no two are identical, each one developed through careful design decisions, material exploration, and an interest in rethinking familiar pottery forms. Presented by Urn Studios as handmade ceramic cremation urns for ashes, his work offers sculptural memorial vessels defined by process, texture, and individuality.
