Handcrafted by Philip Kupferschmidt (PK Ceramics), this large ceramic cremation urn for ashes is wheel-thrown in a substantial lidded form and covered with raised glaze droplets across the body and lid. The surface is dense and immersive, built up through many individual marks that give the urn a strong tactile presence.

Philip’s work is inspired by natural processes: surface tension, the textures that form in drying earth, and the droplet patterns of guttation in plants and fungi. A one-of-a-kind handmade memorial urn, designed to hold ashes with care and intention.

Philip Kupferschmidt is a ceramic artist based in Chino, California, maintaining a studio practice since 2020 after receiving his MFA in Ceramics and BFA in Creative Photography from California State University, Fullerton.

Working primarily on the potter’s wheel, Philip makes handmade ceramic vessels shaped by ongoing glaze experimentation and close observation of natural phenomena. While his pieces follow a consistent set of themes, no two are identical, each one developed through careful design decisions, material exploration, and an interest in rethinking familiar pottery forms.
