Artist: Kate Gorbunova (Count Barkula)

Hand-built in East London by Kate Gorbunova (Count Barkula), the Dreaming Memory Vessel is a ceramic cat cremation urn inspired by ancient amphorae and timeless guardianship. Its graceful shape echoes Greek and Roman pottery, while the sculpted cat atop evokes Pre-Columbian and Mesoamerican art, where sacred animals protected those they loved. Created from white stoneware, it features detailed underglaze painting and a pink-speckled glaze. This handmade cat urn is entirely unique, a vessel that unites art, memory, and devotion.

(Count Barkula)

Count Barkula is the playful ceramic alter ego of Kate Gorbunova, born during lockdown as an escape from screen fatigue. A graphic designer by trade, Kate sought a hands-on creative outlet, something tangible and deeply personal. She found it in clay. Inspired by her beloved whippet, Victor Hugo, she now creates handmade ceramic pet urns with charm and character. This special collection of dog and cat urns was created exclusively for urn studios, blending warmth, symbolism, and playful design.

Her forms echo Greek and Roman pottery, while expressive animal guardians nod to Pre-Columbian and Mesoamerican traditions. Richly decorated surfaces, florals reminiscent of folk art and patterns inspired by Persian and Middle Eastern ceramics, bring each handmade pet urn to life. Every piece hand-painted in Hackney, East London, offering a heartfelt tribute to the animals we love.
